The East Frisian tea room at the harbor in Leer is a cozy spot for those looking to enjoy traditional Ostfriesland tea culture paired with classic regional cakes. Nestled right by the waterfront on Rathausstraße, the café offers a relaxed setting where locals and visitors alike can slow down and savor the moment. Whether seated inside among the simple, warm décor or outside on a sunny day with a harbor view, the atmosphere feels quietly inviting and typically Frisian.

This tea room is best suited for anyone interested in experiencing an authentic tea time ritual. The preparation of Ostfriesen Tee—with its characteristic rock sugar (Kluntje) and cream—is more than just a drink here; it's a gentle ceremony that adds to the charm. The menu highlights local favorites such as Apfelkuchen with ice cream and cream, the layered Ostfriesentorte, and the often-favored Milchreistorte, making it a great spot for those who appreciate traditional German cakes alongside their tea.

The service is noted for being friendly and attentive without feeling formal, which complements the laid-back vibe of the place. Weekends, especially around midday, can get quite busy but there’s often still a chance for a relaxed seat. It attracts a mix of visitors—from locals catching a quiet moment during the day to travelers curious about this regional specialty. A mid-afternoon visit, especially when the weather allows for seating outside with views of the harbor, tends to offer a particularly pleasant experience.

Visitors who enjoy simple pleasures—like a thick slice of Kürbisbrot with butter or a hot cup of tea shared among friends—will find this tea room a fitting choice. It’s less about bustling crowds or flashy presentation and more focused on inviting guests to experience a cultural tradition at a comfortably slow pace, framed by the serene harbor setting of Leer.

Great atmosphere, very good tea. Sit indoors, it's much nicer. They bring you free tea refill for your pot of tea
